I think I have done well on the front cover magazine as the colour scheme/ house style works well as it contrasts well with the image. It uses a masthead, sans serif fonts and a banner.
However, to improve this I would add sell lines and strap lines. Also I would include puffs or an eye-catching pull quote to draw the reader in making it a higher sell point.
